Things People Hate About Money Transfers

Every now and then we receive e-mails regarding the nuisances and inconveniences that people encounter when doing money transfers. This brief article is intended to a) Give money transfer service providers guidance on what there customers require and b) to provide a means by which people who regularly transfer money overseas can learn from other peoples annoyances.

So here we go with money transfer annoyances:

Hidden transfer fees. How many times have you shopped around thinking that you have gotten the best deal only to realise either after it is too late or just before you come to pay that there is some ridiculous extra charge with some annoying label like 'administrative fee' or 'handling charge' which wasn't included in your original money transfer quote.

Misleading advertising such as 'No Money Transfer Fee'. Great you think so you go ahead with a money transfer only to realise in your haste that you forgot to check what exchange rate they were offering and then realised that you have after all done worse than expected.

Receiver having the reference number for the money transfer only for some uptight official to decline to pay-out on the grounds that they weren't aware of the exact amount that they were supposed to receive.

Extra charges for using credit cards and cash advance fees, just another way we tend to lose out at times.

Online you can find some great deals and methods to transfer money quickly and easily from the US but try sending cash from a Asian country back to the US quickly and cheaply (Western Union is just too expensive but often the only answer if you are abroad with only cash to send back.

Banks appear to offer a cheaper way to send money when they tell you there charge at your end but they don't often tell you how much the receiver will be charged at the other end.

Why does Paypal make it so restrictive for international users!? So many verification procedures and the fact that they may not even be able to deposit money into the baning system in your particular country kind of ruins the reputation for international money transfers.

Why are there so many more services available to US citizens than to European citizens, for example US citizens can transfer money from abroad using western Union direct into a bank account without getting a friend to collect the money transfer and deposit into there account for them.

Time delays on bank transfers where does the money go and indeed the interest that you would be earning on it when it can disappear for over ten days for a wire transfer.

The above are just a few of the concerns we receive emails about although there a re certainly plenty more.
