Transfer Money Overseas
Nowadays you can simply on line money online to someone sitting at Everest base camp with their laptop. In fact it is technology such as this that has extended the boundaries of business and allowed such personal freedom.
I am sure that the ability to transfer overseas has benefited many a backpacker and traveler whereby previously life would most likely gotten a great deal more uncomfortable. However it does bring to mind the fact that if transferring money overseas is so easy then why do we allow countries to remain in such great poverty?
With money transfers being possible in seconds wouldn't a government initiative to transfer money to where it is really needed be a great boost to suffering communities. Well, no of course not... transferring money overseas is one thing, making sure it gets to the people who need it and ensuring it is put to sustainable and appropriate regenerative use is quite another. What with corruption and the scarcity of money itself any proposed plans to inject economies with money would likely be flawed. I guess it goes to prove the old adage that: There are no such things as perfect actions only perfect intentions.'
As soon as money is transferred and one need seems to be satisfied another need seems to be created...one desire leads to another and another. Therefore donated money is not necessarily the best form of help. Aid that is in some form regenerative or gets a community on its feet is likely to be of much more long term sustainable use. I am not saying don't transfer money overseas to help people out but just be aware if you are supporting people in this way it is likely to be an ongoing process whereby each time the money is sent it may soon be spent and the situation is not in actuality improved.
Now of course it depends entirely on the specific situation as to what would be a sustainable alternative, however I am aware of organizations that use donations to buy and supply communities with amongst other things: goats, seeds, educational material and so on. In this way you may be able to find a more sustainable alternative to simply transferring money overseas...just a thought.
